Town Office Closed – November 8th, 2022 Election Day

The Town Office will be closed today, November 8, 2022 for normal business. Town Hall is open for voting and our office staff will be fulfilling their duties with respect to the elections upstairs in the Gordon Emerson Auditorium.

Since the Town Hall front steps are still under construction, please use the side entrance (facing George Stevens Academy) to the building and follow the signs to reach the auditorium for voting.  Once inside, voters can either take the stairs or use the elevator to reach the polls.

The Town Office will reopen for normal business tomorrow at 8:00am.

Property Tax Stabilization Program

Our State Legislature recently enacted a law creating the Property Tax Stabilization Program, which essentially “freezes” the amount of property tax a resident must pay if they’ve lived in and owned a Maine home for at least 10 years and will be 65 years of age by April 1, 2023.

You may qualify if you are:

  • Age 65 or older
  • A permanent resident of Maine
  • Have owned a Maine homestead for at least ten (10) years, and
  • Be eligible for a homestead exemption on the property you are applying for

Keep in mind: the deadline to apply for the program is December 1, 2022
