Licensing

All dogs in Maine that are six months or older must be licensed annually in the town in which they reside. Licenses must be obtained by January 31 of each year, and may be obtained at the Town Office.

Fees (as of 2023)

Spayed or Neutered: $6.00 per year
Unaltered: $11.00 per year

Late Fee: Annual fee plus $25.00 per dog effective Feb. 1st

Proof of rabies vaccination and proof of spay or neuter

Every other year
Proof of rabies vaccination

Animal Control Officer

Our Animal Control Officer is responsible for animal welfare and animal control in the Town of Blue Hill. Among the duties associated with the office are:

  • Assisting citizens with lost, sick, found, or injured animals.
  • Enforcing ordinances relating to dog licensing, disruptive barking and other matters.
  • Issuing warnings and summonses in the event of neglect or cruelty to animals.
